Always a great experience, the Rocks will be looking to a decent run of cup games to further boost what has so far been a strong season across the board.

Following on from their excellent 6-1 victory away to Doxa, Glen Wrafter’s first team will host Port Jefferson reserves at 1pm on Sunday in St Michael’s Playground.

The Rocks reserves will be sending a big squad to the Hamptons to take on East Hampton FC, relative newcomers to the Long Island Soccer League.

It’ll be a 200-míle round trip for Stevie Doyle’s team but they face into this 2pm clash buoyed by three wins in a row in the league.

Later that evening, Barnstonworth Premier host Paddy Mc Carry’s Over 30s in the Marth Cup (Randall’s Island Field 75, 8pm).

At the same time, the Shamrocks Women’s team will be taking on Smoking Aces at Lief Ericson in Brooklyn.

Super Mo hat-trick as Rocks clinch three more wins

WEEKEND RESULTS

  • Doxa 1 NY Shamrocks 6
  • Doxa Reserves 1 NY Shamrocks Reserves 3
  • Goettschee 2 NY Shamrocks Over 30s 3
  • NY Shamrocks Women 0 NY Skull 2

All three Shamrocks mens teams are top of their respective divisions this morning after a weekend of vital wins.

The biggest victory of Sunday was the first team’s impressive 6-1 win over fellow title challengers Doxa.

A Mohamed Fofana hat trick was the highlight but the Rocks dominated their opponents with impressive performances throughout the team.

The midfield was bolstered by the return of Shane Moore who was back in a first team jersey after a couple of good displays for the reserves while captain Rob Gaynor and Nikle Guzijan were a forceful pairing at the pack as usual.

Fofana opened the scoring with a well placed header after about 20 minutes, executing well from a superb Santiago Rigby cross from the right wing.

Rigby then made it 2-0 ten minutes later when a superb move down the left allowed Chris Burns to drill a low cross in to the back post to where the Uruguayan tapped home easily.

Rigby added a third just before half-time, taking advantage of a defensive error and sending a wonderful strike past the Doxa keeper.

Early in the second half, the Rocks went 4-0 up, Brendan Lane crossing to Joey Aronovsky who tapped home after a rebound, his third of the season.

Fofana took advantage of a defensive error to score his second and Shamrocks fifth and five minutes later, he made it 6-0, the top scorer’s sixth of the season.

Meanwhile, Stevie Doyle’s reserves were 3-1 winners in the curtainraiser.

Rigby’s Uruguayan compatriot Leandro Fregossi starred with two excellent strikes while Sean Hand added a third.

It was scoreless at half-time but the patient Rocks finally broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half after a Hand corner dropped to Fregossi who made no mistake from eight yards out.

Fregossi’s second was a beauty, his and Hand’s goals both hitting the same top corner to make sure of the three points. Doxa scored late but the Rocks were comfortable in the end.

The Over 30s beat Gottschee 3-1 at Randall’s Island to stretch their 100% record to five wins from five.

The Rocks were 1-0 up within the first minute. Alex Berne’s free kick was parried to Sébastien Thiol who drilled it home from eight yards.

Gottschee enjoyed a period of dominance but the Docks scored against the run of play when Richie Brennan’s pass found Tayfun Gokmen who did well to round the keeper and fire home, making it 2-0.

Brennan himself made it 3-0 – his first strike as a Shamrock – 15 minutes into the second half when he finished off a nice move involving Berne and captain Eugene O’Driscoll.

The home side pulled two goals back in quick succession with about 20 minutes left but the Rocks held on to win it 3-2 and make it five wins from five.

Special mention to Ari Seidenstein who was playing his first game since the birth of his baby daughter Abigail.

Elsewhere, the women’s team played their first ever game at St Michael’s, defeated 2-0 as they continue to build.

Next weekend, the State Cup begins with the first team hosting Port Jefferson reserves at St Michael’s (1pm, Sunday).

The reserves face a 200-mile round trip to East Hampton for their tie (2pm, 18 Goodfriend Dr, East Hampton NY 11937) while the Over 30s face the Barnstonworth Premier side at 8pm on Sunday evening at Randall’s Island.

Man of the match Santiago Rigby was the major difference between the teams at St Michael’s on Sundayafternoon as Glen Wrafter’s first team got back to winning ways with a 4-3 win over Manhattan Kickers.

Wrafter opted to start Nikle Guzijan as a striker and he made good on his promise to deliver by opening the scoring with a header from short distance after 10 mins.
Kickers, who came down from the First Division this year, equalized soon after to make it 1-1 and then took the lead with a penalty after 15 mins.
Newly signed Rocks midfielder Sean Doran made it 2-2 after 25 mins with a fine finish from just inside the box and then captain Sean Steed made it 3 – 2 with another fine header from short range.
Rigby then secured the points before half-time, making it 4-2 with a wonderful finish.

A mix up between Rocks’ goalkeeper James ‘Scouse’ Wright and Guzijan allowed Kickers a third early in the second half but the Rocks held on for the win.
The Rocks are now second as they face into a crucial game at league leaders Doxa next Sunday (kick off2pm at Van Buren High School).
Meanwhile, Stevie Doyle’s reserves are three points clear at the top thanks to a stunning 9-0 victory in the curtain raiser.
A Sean Hand hat-trick was just part of his man of the match performance, driving almost every attack from his midfield berth and proving once again why he is the biggest signing of the off-season.

Leandro Fregossi was impressive again, recording a brace of goals while sub Jim Wong scored two quick goals after being introduced on the hour mark.
Striker Paul McDaid and midfielder Anthony Carrabotta both got one each to go with their own great displays.
Earlier Sunday morning, Paddy Mc Carry’s dominant Over 30s continued their excellent start to the season with a 1-0 win over CPR Grays.
Alex Berne was on the mark once again, ensuring the Rocks are now three points clear at the top with a game in hand.
In the late evening game, the Women’s team were defeated 3-0 in College Point by Baby Magic.

There will be an official unveiling of the new jersey – which is kindly sponsored by Crana Electric – next Sunday at the Courtyard Ale House but the unofficial baptism was a good one, with Sean Riley scoring another brace, his strikes bookended by Adrian Morrissey’s first of the season and a Tayfun Gokmen penalty.

Meanwhile in Secaucus, Glen Wrafter’s first team suffered a setback in cruel circumstances at New Amsterdam on Sunday.

A double from Joey Aronovsky was not enough to get all three points – after dominating possession for most of the game, the hosts headed home in the 91st minute to get a share of the spoils.

Stevie Doyle’s reserves are still top of the table after they registered an impressive 3-0 win with goals from Paul McDaid, Leandro Fregossi and Sean Hand.

The day began with a morale boosting and well deserved victory for the Over 30s against Manhattan Celtic at Randall’s Island.rocks women's team

Sean Riley scored twice in his first start of the season while Danny Parkin’s pinpoint accurate free kick summed up an impeccable performance from the Manchester man. Alex Berne scored in his second game in a row as Paddy Mc Carry’s men cruised to a 4-2 win.

Meanwhile, the new women’s team finally got things underway with their first ever Metropolitan Women’s Soccer League game.

A 0-0 draw against Phoenix was a solid start to their league campaign. Congratulations to Erin Cullen, Teresa Brink and Tricia Reed and also to club president Sean Mc Mullan for making this historic day possible.

Polonia were the visitors to St Michaels in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League Division 2 and they took a win and a draw back to Greenpoint.

A 2-1 defeat for the first team leaves them on two wins from three in the standings. Mohamed Fofana scored in the second half after good work from Joey Aronovsky and Nikle Guzijan.

Earlier, the reserves were unlucky to be denied victory, Sean Hand scoring on his debut in a 1-1 draw.
