- Goettschee 2 NY Shamrocks Over 30s 3
- NY Shamrocks Women 0 NY Skull 2
All three Shamrocks mens teams are top of their respective divisions this morning after a weekend of vital wins.
The biggest victory of Sunday was the first team’s impressive 6-1 win over fellow title challengers Doxa.
A Mohamed Fofana hat trick was the highlight but the Rocks dominated their opponents with impressive performances throughout the team.
The midfield was bolstered by the return of Shane Moore who was back in a first team jersey after a couple of good displays for the reserves while captain Rob Gaynor and Nikle Guzijan were a forceful pairing at the pack as usual.
Fofana opened the scoring with a well placed header after about 20 minutes, executing well from a superb Santiago Rigby cross from the right wing.
Rigby then made it 2-0 ten minutes later when a superb move down the left allowed Chris Burns to drill a low cross in to the back post to where the Uruguayan tapped home easily.
Rigby added a third just before half-time, taking advantage of a defensive error and sending a wonderful strike past the Doxa keeper.
Early in the second half, the Rocks went 4-0 up, Brendan Lane crossing to Joey Aronovsky who tapped home after a rebound, his third of the season.
Fofana took advantage of a defensive error to score his second and Shamrocks fifth and five minutes later, he made it 6-0, the top scorer’s sixth of the season.
Meanwhile, Stevie Doyle’s reserves were 3-1 winners in the curtainraiser.
Rigby’s Uruguayan compatriot Leandro Fregossi starred with two excellent strikes while Sean Hand added a third.
It was scoreless at half-time but the patient Rocks finally broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second half after a Hand corner dropped to Fregossi who made no mistake from eight yards out.

Fregossi’s second was a beauty, his and Hand’s goals both hitting the same top corner to make sure of the three points. Doxa scored late but the Rocks were comfortable in the end.
The Over 30s beat Gottschee 3-1 at Randall’s Island to stretch their 100% record to five wins from five.

The Rocks were 1-0 up within the first minute. Alex Berne’s free kick was parried to Sébastien Thiol who drilled it home from eight yards.
Gottschee enjoyed a period of dominance but the Docks scored against the run of play when Richie Brennan’s pass found Tayfun Gokmen who did well to round the keeper and fire home, making it 2-0.
Brennan himself made it 3-0 – his first strike as a Shamrock – 15 minutes into the second half when he finished off a nice move involving Berne and captain Eugene O’Driscoll.
The home side pulled two goals back in quick succession with about 20 minutes left but the Rocks held on to win it 3-2 and make it five wins from five.
Special mention to Ari Seidenstein who was playing his first game since the birth of his baby daughter Abigail.
Elsewhere, the women’s team played their first ever game at St Michael’s, defeated 2-0 as they continue to build.
Next weekend, the State Cup begins with the first team hosting Port Jefferson reserves at St Michael’s (1pm, Sunday).
The reserves face a 200-mile round trip to East Hampton for their tie (2pm, 18 Goodfriend Dr, East Hampton NY 11937) while the Over 30s face the Barnstonworth Premier side at 8pm on Sunday evening at Randall’s Island.
