Over 30s return to action as spring season kicks off

The Shamrocks Over 30s are back in league action ahead of every other team in the CSL with a make-up game away to Brooklyn Gunners on Sunday evening (Randall’s Island 70 – 8pm).

Paddy Mc Carry’s men lie in second place in their conference behind the Manhattan Celtic Legends who hold a head-to-head goals differential advantage over the Rocks.

The squad has been strengthened ahead of the push towards a potential three-in-a-row bid while there is also a State Cup defense to play for.

“We’re looking forward to getting back to business,” said the Rocks coach.

“We had two friendlies and we’re in very good form and hopefully we got rid of all the cobwebs. We have singed three very good players – Kevin Walsh is an excellent midfielder, Stevie Ortiz can play multiple positions and Mauricio Bermudez is a big center half.

“We go into the spring with the strongest panel we ever had and we now have cover for every position on the field. It’s going to be very hard to pick an 18-man panel never mind a starting 11.

“The goal for the summer is to do the double. We want to retain our State Cup and league title. We have the players to do it but it’s one game at a time and it starts Sunday night.”
