Nothing better than a nine-point weekend.
The free-scoring Shamrocks netted 17 goals between them at Randall’s Island this weekend only conceding two on the way to securing three victories that will spur the club on going into November.
Brendan Lane was the star for the first team on Saturday night as he scored a hat trick in the league leading Rocks’ 7-1 demolition of Flank United.
His opening free kick was masterful, his deft second half header was a perfect flick backwards over the keeper and his long range curling left footed shot from outside the box was a stunning way to wrap up a night he spent tormenting the opposition from the right flank.
Reserves new boy Michael McGreevey marked his debut for Glen Wrafter’s men with the second goal of the night while Joey Aronovsky added the third from close range.
Even the gaffer got on the scoresheet, Wrafter finishing neatly after a marauding run down the left wing while captain on the night, Sean Steed, completed the scoring with a fine shot from distance.
James ‘Scouse’ Wright was in fine form again and was unlucky not to keep a clean sheet while center backs Rob Gaynor and Larry Slaughter were rock solid throughout.
Meanwhile, the Shamrocks reserves won their game 4-0 at Randall’s Island in the opening salvo.
Dave Harvey scored an incredible brace – one a perfectly placed free kick – while Braden Ruddy and a debut goal from Meath striker Gerard Grehan sealed the result.
The Over 30s continued their resurgence with a 6-0 win over Barnstonworth Rovers on Sunday morning, also at Randall’s Island.
Six different players got on the scoresheet: Adrian Morrissey, Scott McCullough, Jon Fortney, Caio Kac, Burim ‘Benny’ Ljuta and Eugene ‘Bingo’ O’Driscoll.
Special mention to John Riordan who featured in all three games.
