New Shamrocks White coach John Keane enjoyed a perfect start to his new role at the club when his team recorded a 3-0 victory over Beyond FC at St Michaels on Sunday.

After a hard fought and scoreless first half, Christine Perrella opened the scoring in the second half and Cassie Esposito also opened her account for the season with a pair of goals which sealed victory.

“Great team effort in what was a very evenly matched game,” said Keane.

“We began to outwork our opponents in all areas in the second half and the breakthrough came for a deserved win.”

NYMWSL Division A champions Shamrocks Green started their title defense with a 1-1 tie at Rovers.

”This was the epitome of the first game of the season,” said new coach Kelci Hegg.

“We were a little rushed, a little disorganized but overall, we managed to get a result. I have confidence as we go forward, we will be fitter and smarter in the games to come.

“It was good to see Teresa Ferraro not miss a beat is she came back and scored our lone goal and have a newcomer Dayna Darcy create the assist.”

Meanwhile, in the men’s league, the first team were unlucky not to bring a result back from Travers Island where NYAC emerged 3-2 winners.

A goal just before half-time from Francesco Zanetti set up by John McAleenan and an 85th minute consolation from Jack Watson with Darren Coleman assisting were not enough to salvage a first point of the season.

“We were unlucky not to get a point from the game,” said Paddy Geraghty.

“We had a few decent chances and hit the crossbar. We gave away two goals that were avoidable and overall we didn’t play our game. We’ll try fix it this week and go again next Sunday.”

In the curtain raiser, the Rocks Reserves battled back from 3-1 down to eke out a 3-3 draw against perennial rivals NYAC. James Whyte (1) and James Hudson (2) were on the mark for Kevin McPhillips’ men.

”Another slow start this week but the lads showed good character again to score three unanswered goals and come away with the point,” said Coach KMc.

“The group is still getting to know each other and we’ve got some things to figure out, but the team spirit and effort is fantastic.”

Shamrocks 1960 are also seeking a first point after they too were on the wrong end of a 3-2 reversal, Ciaran Brennan and Hughie McGowan scoring the goals for Rob O’Neill’s team.

“This was a tough loss once again,” said O’Neill.

”We missed a few great chances and conceded a couple soft goals. Disappointing but we’ll regroup at training Tuesday and move forward.”

In the first game of a busy Sunday, the Legends were 5-2 winners over Eintracht, sending John Riordan’s men to a 2-0 record at the top of the Over 40s Division.

Marcus Nascimento opened the scoring early with a fine finish off a Ger Shivnan assist. The Brazilian then turned provider for Shivnan who also added a third team goal just before half-time.

Eintracht narrowed the game to 3-1 but then Shivnan added another assist to his tally when he played in Paul Bradshaw for his first goal of the season, giving the Legends some breathing space. Paddy Geraghty rounded off the scoring with an immaculate left foot finish.

“Delighted with the win,” said Riordan. “It was great to have Cair Ferguson back in action and also good to see Paul Bradshaw find the back of the net. Good team performance but a big test next Sunday against Barnstonworth will really tell us where we are.”
