The rain didn’t dampen spirits at Sunnyside Gardens on Sunday as the Shamrocks enjoyed the largest player turnout in recent memory for its annual Six-Aside Co-Ed Soccer Tournament.
Eight teams – sponsored by eight different bars and companies – took to the field for a competitive but fun event that paved the way for an exciting season ahead which is now just over two weeks away.
In the final, Zachary Gosse’s Courtyard sponsored first team clinched the King McCormack Cup after grinding out a 1-0 victory over Robbie O’Neill’s fan favorites, the Bar 43 sponsored Shamrocks 1960 squad.
Although the muddy conditions prevented the traditional kids’ race, the semi-finals provided more than enough entertainment for the resilient onlookers with the GTI Alumni team and The Chelsea Bell Reserves team each succumbing to Bar 43 and The Courtyard respectively.
The other sponsors who helped make the day happen were The Wolfhound, PJ Horgans, Solas Electrical and Mc Guinness’s.
“It was a great day and everyone contributed to help make it a memorable occasion,” said Club President Teresa Brink.
“I am very grateful to everyone who sponsored the teams and to all the players who came along to compete. Congratulations to Zach and his team and well done also to Robbie and Bar 43/Shamrocks 1960 for bringing a lot of fun to the final.
“We love hosting this event at Sunnyside Gardens and I want to thank the committee for all their help and being so welcoming to us. We can now look forward to the new season with great excitement and optimism!”
