In-form NY Ukrainians bid to topple Rocks

CSL Division 2 (& Reserves)
NY Shamrocks v NY Ukrainians, St Michael’s Playground, 1pm (11am)
CSL Over 30s
Barnstonworth Premier v NY Shamrocks, Randall’s Island 74, 8pm
Metro Women’s League
Manhattan Kickers v NY Shamrocks, McCarren Park, Williamsburg, 8pm

The Shamrocks may be in control of the top spot in Division 2 but Glen Wrafter’s men will face tough opposition this Sunday when second placed NY Ukrainians visit St Michael’s Playground at 1pm.

The Ukrainians haven’t lost in the league since the opening day of the season and lie just three points behind the Rocks in the standings.

But after a perfect October in which the Rocks won all four games, scoring 21 goals in the process, they will be hopeful of getting off to a good start in November.

During the week it was confirmed that the next round of the State Cup will take place in Yonkers with the first team taking on EDSL side South Stars (Cook Park, Sunday november 16, 2pm).

Meanwhile, Stevie Doyle’s reserves will also face a stiff test against their Ukrainian counterparts who have enjoyed a decent start to the season. They did however draw 1-1 last Sunday at home to struggling Manhattan Kickers in a shock result.

Later on Sunday, the Shamrocks Over 30s will be seeking to protect their 100% league record when they take on Barnstonworth Rovers Premier at Randall’s Island 74 (8pm).

The two sides met in the State Cup two weeks ago, a game which resulted in the Rocks exiting the competiton so Paddy Mc Carry will be hopeful of learning some lessons from that tie.

Elsewhere, it will also be a late kick-off for the women’s team who play Manattan Kickers/Scala in McCarren Park (Williamsburg) at 8pm.
